BRAMAN –ETHEL (MRS. HORACE B. POMEROY) - (1931) aged 48, of 550 Lafayette Avenue, Buffalo, was instantly killed about five-thirty p.m. on Wednesday, November 25th, when the automobile, she was driving to Troy for Thanksgiving with relatives, skidded and crashed into a tree near Kanona, about four miles this side of Bath, NY. Mr. Pomeroy, son of the late C. B. and Mrs. Pomeroy, and brother of John, Edwin and Fayette B. Pomeroy preceded Mrs. Pomeroy in another car and arrived in Troy without knowledge of the accident. A telephone call from the Bath hospital brought news of the shocking tragedy. Mr. Pomeroy and his brother, Fayette B. Pomeroy left at once for Bath. As Mrs. Pomeroy wished to return to Buffalo before Mr. Pomeroy, they left Buffalo in two machines. Mr. Pomeroy and their son, Braman 10, in the first car and Mrs. Pomeroy and their daughter, Josephine, 14 in another. Between Buffalo and Bath, Braman complained of the cold and was taken into the car with his mother. The two cars stopped at a filling station in Kanona and Mr. Pomeroy started on to Troy. As Mrs. Pomeroy, who was an expert driver, came to the juncture of the concrete and macadam road at the Cohocton River, her car skidded on the light snow of last Wednesday and crashed into a tree, fatally injuring her. Josephine, who was in the front seat with her, suffered a concussion of the brain and was badly bruised and jarred. Braman, who was in the rear seat, escaped uninjured. Mrs. Pomeroy was dead when the Bath hospital was reached. The body was taken to Buffalo, were funeral services were held from her late home Saturday. Interment was in the family plot at Glenwood Cemetery on Sunday. Mrs. Pomeroy, daughter of Chester A. Braman of New York was active in club and church affairs in Buffalo and her untimely death saddened the Thanksgiving season in many Troy homes. She is survived by Mr. Pomeroy, three sons, Horace Jr., and Lawrence, students at Yale University, Braman and one daughter, Josephine. In the party, which came from Buffalo with the body of Mrs. Pomeroy were: Mr. Pomeroy, Horace Jr. and Lawrence, Mr. Emory Tucker, Mr. Russell Hutton, of the firm of Schoellkolpf, Hutton & Pomeroy, Mr. Pomeroy’s Buffalo firm.
