While Visiting her Daughter Who Was About to Move West, Former Resident of This City Dies
A member of one of Portage county's pioneer families passed away last Thursday morning at Chippewa Falls, when Mrs. Wesley King died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Olive Hakes. She had gone there the Tuesday before from Waupaca Veterans's Home to visit her daughter before the latter's removal to Everett, Wash., but as she had not been in good health for some time previously, and was subject to heart trouble, the over-exertion proved fatal.
Mrs. King was a resident of Stevens Point most of her life and was born here 67 years ago the 7th of last February. Her maiden name was Florabell Crosby. Her husband Wesley King, died in this city about twelve years ago and four years later she was married to A. Calkins, who survives her, as do one son Charles King of Mellen, and two daughters Mrs. Alexander Ireland of Abbotsford and Mrs. Harry Hakes of Chippewa Falls. Another son, Pardee King, was killed while in the employ of the Soo at Abbotsford a year ago last January. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. M. R. Warren of Kenosha.
Mrs. King had been living at Waupaca Veterans' Home since a year ago last August 1st, and visited in this city last May and also in June.
The remains were brought to this city last Monday afternoon and taken directly to the Church of the Intercession, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. Croft Gear and interment was made in Forest cemetery beside the grave of Mr. King. Those who acted as pallbearers were James Altenburg, George Atwell, Wm. F. Parker, and D. C. Whitney.
