Daniel Leon Macon Jr., 64, of Athens, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at a Knoxville hospital.
He was a retired ironworker and was a member of Mt. Cumberland CP Church in Sweetwater. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years as a heavy gunman. He attended J.L. Cook High School in Athens and was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Macon Sr. and June Clark Macon; one brother, Clarence Macon; and his grandparents, Laura Prigmore and Thula Macon.
Survivors include his wife, Roxanne M. Macon of Athens; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shelby and Clartan Billingsley, Renessa Macon and Nikki and Eric Robinson, all of Sweetwater, and Monica and James Johnson of Niota; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kim Macon of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Kay Macon and Terry and Barbara Macon, all of Sweetwater; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Martha McGee of Atlanta, Ga., and Shirley and John Stewart of Sweetwater; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Mt. Cumberland CP Church with the Rev. Clyde Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Cumberland Cemetery with military honor guard.
The family will receive from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the church.
