My Dear Girl,
I was somewhat surprised on receipt of your letter. But not excited in the least. Lulu is ready to slay the fattened rooster on short notice. She says they are preparing the bridal chamber. Mr Brubaker is putting windows in the west upstairs. Now marriage is no joke. God intended this life to be made of homes. And home life is surely made up of joys and sorrows. Sometimes it seems as if there was more sorrow than joy. To be alone in the world without a home is not pleasant. You feel that no one really cares what becomes of you, only so long as you keep up your end of the string or a little more by paying your own expenses. Had we gotten your letter before Lulu's was mailed she would have written differently but it was on its journey. The mail is in but not all up. Jennie just got in; her mother had to come in our business. This is sure fine weather; the frost is coming out of the ground. Mr. and Mrs. John Tyock have separated. Mrs. takes the children and leaves for California tomorrow. Mrs. Roedel was in yesterday and asked for your address, they are going on a western trip but will be some time before they land in Long Beach. Jonah Willis has another girl babe. Loretta was quite bad for several days. Tom Toughs have a boy. George is helping Grandpa McCormick drill. He says he thinks it is alfalfa but not sure. I will not give any advice neither offer any set of rules for your future. If you take Mr. Glenn then "Glenn's my choice" and I can only wish for you both a life of happiness. Somehow I can't get my writing spirit to work so I'll close with lots and bushels of love.
