Lois was born in Eau Claire, WI on February 28, 1923, the daughter of the late Andrew and Olivia (Hahn) Nielsen. She was married to Robert Scott on June 18, 1949. Lois was a 1944 graduate of the National Teachers College in Evanston, IL. She taught kindergarten in Portland, OR, Long Beach, CA and Durand, WI before settling in Milwaukee with her family. She was a beloved kindergarten teacher for over 20 years, the majority of which were spent at 88th Street School in Milwaukee. Lois was instrumental in starting the kindergarten program at St. Jude the Apostle School in Wauwatosa. She was dearly loved by her students and her contribution to their education is immeasurable.

Lois and Robert belonged to St. Jude Parish from 1959 to 2002, when they moved to Madison to be near their children. Beyond her teaching, Lois was an active volunteer at Milwaukee County Hospital (Froedtert) gift shop and St. Jude's Rectory. One of her greatest joys was being a volunteer music teacher at her grandchildren's kindergarten music classes. She always found time for a good game of bridge, a long swim or winning at the casino.
