Audrey Lee (Goolsby) Wiese, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Tamarack Living Center in Altus after a short illness.
Audrey was born in rural Jackson County, Oklahoma, on March 16, 1926. She was the second of eight children (her sister Joyce's twin died just after birth.) Audrey was raised in rural Oklahoma just east of Altus and grew up happily in a small house with her parents, George Tracy and Bessie (Haley) Goolsby, and her seven brothers and sisters.
She commented many times that it was a house full of love, and although there was very little room in the house, it never felt crowded. When Audrey graduated from the Ozark School east of Altus in 1943, she took a job as a waitress in a small diner in Altus. While working there, she would often give a handful of her tip money to her sisters and brothers so they could go see a movie or do something else that they wanted to do while in Altus. It was while working at the diner that Audrey met and fell in love with Ray Wiese, who was then stationed at Altus Air Force Base.
The two were married on February 28, 1945, in Altus, and soon after, moved to Ray's hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin. They lived there for approximately fifty-six years, and along with frequent visits to Oklahoma, there they raised their two sons. For many years, Audrey was involved in her children's schools, participated in the Mother's March of Dimes, and worked in Customer Service Department of H.C. Pranges Department store. But Audrey was mainly a homemaker who loved raising her two sons and caring for her husband Ray, who was always more important than any other activity in her life.
Audrey always loved birds, and at various times in her life, would raise parakeets and finches to a ripe old age. Not only did she love her pet birds, she also loved to watch and feed the wild birds. While living in Wisconsin, exotic birds that were very rarely seen often came to her feeders, and while living in Oklahoma, it regularly looked like she was feeding a large percentage of the local population of hummingbirds. Generally, around her house, no wild bird ever went hungry.
But even while living in Wisconsin, if "home is where the heart is," Audrey's home was always Oklahoma, and in the spring of 2001, she and Ray moved back to Warren. They had been living in Warren for approximately six years when Ray passed away. Soon after Ray's death, Audrey moved to the Tamarack Retirement Center in Altus to be closer to her son Terry. Audrey was saved and baptized at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Altus and later became a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Warren.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, and two brothers, Tracy Goolsby and Thurman Goolsby, she is survived by two sons, Terry Wiese of Altus and Jeffrey Wiese and wife Peggy of Madison, Wisconsin; one grandson and one granddaughter, Brian Komp and Laurie Notz, both of Appleton, Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren,
Kyle Komp, Chloe Notz, and Elijah Notz, all of Appleton, Wisconsin; three sisters, Carolyn McElroy and Vinita Elliott of Warren, Oklahoma, and Joyce Gipson of Altus, Oklahoma; and one brother Herman Goolsby of El Paso, Texas. Audrey was the best mother a son could have, a
loving and devoted grandmother, and did the best she could for her great-grandchildren. Audrey was honest, loving, and highly devoted to her friends and family. She was highly cherished and deeply loved by her sons and all her friends and relatives. Audrey was a Christian in the
finest sense of the word and is currently dwelling in the only place that she'll love more than her beloved Oklahoma. We love you, Mom!
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 27 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Audrey Wiese will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Missionary Baptist Church in Warren, Oklahoma, with Bro. Terry Colwell and Bro. Ken Lyles officiating. Interment will follow at the Warren Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral
