Charles was the son of Hiram and Maria Mitchell Bannister from New York and Ohio with siblings: William, Julia, Debra, Hiram, Alfred, and George. He married Flora L. Horner on 21 March 1887 in Wood County with the consent of her parents but they later divorced. His second marriage was to Jennie Bamber on 30 September 1896 in Wood County, and they had no children but raised Gertrude Drutzer as their own. Charles had a sixth grade education and was a carpenter. He helped build many Weston buildings. Charles died from a heart attack at the age of 83 years 2 months and 13ndays.
