W. Dinklocker Fatally Stricken Fighting Fire
A well-known former Scout leader was fatally stricken while fighting a brush fire near a grove he owned in Butler Township Saturday afternoon.
Wilbur (Dink) Dinklocker, 60, of rear 554 Lincoln street, who owned Dink's Grove along the Nescopeck Creek in the Edgewood area, was helping to extinguish a brush fire there about 1:30 when he apparently over-exerted himself and was taken ill.
Members of the Butler Twp Fire Co. at the scene summoned the Butler Twp ambulance which removed him to the State General Hospital wher ehe was pronounced dead at 3:15 pm.
He had been employed as a clerk, first class, with the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company.
He was born in West Hazleton, a son of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Schade) Dinklocker.
He was a member of Emmanuel's United Church of Christ, Azalea Lodge No 687, F and AM, Hazleton Lodge 65 IOOF.
He was scoutmaster of Troop 1, St. Paul's UCC Church, West Hazleton, when that was one of the leading troops in the Anthracite Council during the 1930s and organized the famous boys Drum and Bugle Corps Cadet Club of that time with the troop as a nucleus.
Surviving are his wife, the former Pearl Snyder; sisters and brother, Mrs. Mary Lamb, West Hazleton; Mrs. John (Stella) Walbridge, Drexel Hill, Pa; Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Wheeler, Philadelphia; Rollin, Jenkintown, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday at Bachman Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. John B. Stoudt, pastor of Emmanuel's United Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will be in Vine Street Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Azalea Lodge will conduct services at 7 pm Tuesday.
