Obituary of James Monroe Thomas

James Monroe Thomas, 68, of Pinedale, Sublette, Wyoming, died July 7, 1997, in Pinedale, Wyoming.
Jim was born on March 22, 1929, in Green River, Sweetwater, Wyoming, the son of Reed John Thomas and Rae MacBeth Brechin Thomas. He attended school in Green River, Wyoming and graduated from Rawlins High School, Rawlins, Wyoming in 1947.
Following graduation he worked as a fireman on the Union Pacific Railroad, between Rawlins and Evanston, Wyoming. Jim served in the United States Air Force from August 1950 until December 1954, flying 50 nighttime missions as a B-56 crew member in Korea and was awarded several medals.
On June 20, 1954, Jim and Margie Jorgensen of Pinedale, Wyoming were united in marriage, and became the parents of 4 children, Joslyn Rae, Kevin James, Brett Lee, and Lisa Renee.
Jim and his family ranched on Cottonwood Creek for the remainder of his life.
He loved airplanes and flying, was a member of the American Cattleman's Association, Green River Valley Cattleman's Association, Upper Green River Cattle Association, and Wyoming Stockgrowers. Jim was a member of Masonic Lodge #31, Order of Eastern Star, VFW Fremont Peak Post #4801 all of Pinedale. He was very involved with the Jim Bridger Council, Boy Scouts of America, was Scout Master for several years and received the Silver Beaver Award. Jim's favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing, snowmobiling and bowling. Also, he enjoyed his horses, raising, riding and driving them. Most of all he enjoyed flying.
Survivors include his wife Margie of Pinedale, Wyoming; sons Kevin of Pinedale, Wyoming; Brett and wife Diana Thomas of Round Hill, Virginia; daughter Joslyn White and husband Howard of Valentine, Nebraska and Lisa Copeland and husband Ross of Big Piney, Wyoming; grandchildren Jacques and Rives White, and Shane, Bailey and Caitlin Copeland.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Funeral services were held at the Community Congregational Church in Pinedale, Wyoming on July 11, 1997. Interment was at the Pinedale Cemetery, Pinedale, Wyoming.
