Daniel Patrick Austin, 17, of Ruidoso, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in Ruidoso.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1987, in Ruidoso, to Dan and Mary Austin.

He was a lifetime resident of Ruidoso. He had just completed his junior year at Ruidoso High School. He played basketball, football, was involved with Tee Pee Lounge and was a student at Eastern New Mexico University - Ruidoso. He was a member of the Boy scouts of America and St. Eleanor's Catholic Church. Family members said he loved to go camping and mountain biking with his friends.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Thomas Austin of Ruidoso; his grandparents, Nelda Austin of Melrose and Thomas Gerend of Las Cruces; a great-grandmother, Fay Klein of Greeley, Colo.; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his girlfriend, Savannah Lanik of Ruidoso.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Friday at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso.

A prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at St. Eleanor's Catholic Church in Ruidoso.

The Rev. Alfred Galvan will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Ruidoso Hondo Valley Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund for Warrior Football Boosters at City Bank in Ruidoso.
Arrangements are by LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso.
