Staff Sgt Chester M. Vorbeck, 35, an instructor in aerial gunnery for the US Army was killed at Albuquerque, N.M. Friday in a plane crash.
His wife, the former Velma Bolton of Glendale, was with him in Albuquerque and accompanied his body to Glendale where the funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kiefer & Eyerick Peace Chapel with Dr. Hardy A. Ingham officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn.
Sgt. Vorbeck had returned from active duty overseas only two months ago. He was based in Italy and narrowly escaped death on a combat flight when he and all members of the crew bailed out over Austria. After being lost 42 days, he made his way back to Allied lines. He had been decorated.
His marriage to Miss Bolton took place a year ago last May.
A native of Missouri, he is survived by his widow; his parents, Dr. & Mrs. J. Chester Vorbeck of Ventura; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas McFarland of Oxnard and Mrs. Charles Temple of Ventura.
