Graveside services for Jewel Lydia (Gilliland) Hammett of Eufaula, who died Monday at Eufaula Manor, were today at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Perkins officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Merritt Funeral Service of Eufaula. She was 84. Born Oct. 8, 1913 in Eufaula, she was the daughter of James Henry Gilliland and Maggie Bessie (Scott) Gilliland. She married George Wilford "Dub" Hammett on June 17, 1931 and he preceded her in death in Oct. 1995. She was a member of the Eufaula First Baptist Church and was active in the PTA, band activities, church choir and Sunday school. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn "Pat" and Jerry W. McCutchan, Midland, TX, and Ann H. and Lee D. Hopkins, Simi Valley, CA; two sisters, Mary Bickell, El Paso, TX, and Anna Lee Arnold of Tulsa; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters and two brothers.
