D.K. "Pappy" Holden, 91, of Cleveland, Tn., died Thursday, January 12, 2012 in a local health care facility.
He was a member of Bellefounte Baptist Church. He was born in Vancleave, Miss. and moved to Cleveland in June of 1954 to help with the start up of Bowater and retired from Bowater after many years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II.
Mr. Holden was the son of the late Daniel K. Holden and Cammie Wilson Holden; and was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Kitty Evelyn Holden; two sisters, Estelle Barnes and Bailey Taylor; and two brothers, Kenneth Holden and Glen Holden.
He is survived by three children and spouses, Danny and Marsha Holden of Cleveland, Mitchell and Gail Holden of Harrison and Shirley and Frank Jaynes of Cleveland; seven grandchildren, Lisa Young of Cleveland, Bryan Holden of Athens, Christy Pinkston of Morristown, Michael Jaynes of Knoxville, Jeff Holden, Kim Owens and Matthew Jaynes all of Cleveland; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 15, at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Pastor Lake Walker will officiate. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Michael Jaynes, Matthew Jaynes, Bryan Holden, Jeff Holden, Christian Jennette and Frank Jaynes will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation PO Box 96280, Washington, D.C. 20077-7491.
Ralph Buckner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
