Roy Dale Jones, 66, of 1225 Kenilworth, died Saturday in St Anthony Hospital. Services will be 2 pm Monday at St Pauls Episcopal Church with burial in Rose Hill Mausoleum directed by Hahn, Cook, Street & Draper Funeral Home.
Jones was born in Coleman and was a Shawnee resident before moving to OKC 35 years ago. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1921 with a degree in geology. He taught in Coleman and was a principal in Waukomis. He was later employed by Skelly and Shell Oil companies before forming his own business. He was one of the geologists involved in the discovery of the OKC oil field.
He served as tribal representative in Washington for the Choctaw tribe when that tribe sold their valuable coal lands.
In OKC, he belonged to OKC Golf & Country Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Touchdown Club, St Pauls Episcopal Church, the Geological Society, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
He had also been active in Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity for many years and was chosen his chapter's outstanding alumnus in 1958.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs James F Dobbins, of the home; a sister, Mrs H N Morgan, McAlester; and two brothers, Walter of Coleman and Lee of San Antonio TX.
