William Tilden Fortune, 91, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Wichita Falls, TX. Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 14, 2012 at Floral Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. David Turner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, OH. Local Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

William was born April 17, 1921 in Holmesville, OH to Alva L. and Laura Lemon Fortune. Bill (as he was known) served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He then became a civil service instructor retiring in Wichita Falls after working at Sheppard AFB.

Bill joined the Boy Scouts of America at age 12 and attained the rank of Life Scout. In 1957, he was instrumental in rechartering Troop 22. He served as Scout Master for 22 years becoming the longest tenured Scout Master in Troop 22's history. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award an adult can achieve from the Boy Scout Northwest Texas Council. Bill was also served as Commander of the American Legion Post which sponsored Troop 22. Over the years, he had mentored numerous Eagle Scouts and countless young men who went on to become leaders in our society.

Bill had a long history of serving his community and nation by being active in other groups as well, such as the Maskat Shrine, the Masonic Faith Lodge #1158, the James E. West Foundation and numerous other organizations. Bill was a longtime member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church. He was an avid bridge player, loved to travel and loved woodworking. On June 6, 1981 Bill married Dorothy Maurine Thomas in Wichita Falls, TX. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Survivors include his niece Cheryl Miller of Ohio, 4 stepchildren, Vannette Copeland of Siloam Springs, AR, Stan Thomas and wife Linda of Wichita Falls, Teresa Meriwether of Durham, NC, and Janet Marshall and husband Randy of Ft. Collins, CO, and 7 step grandchildren, Aaron Copeland, Seth Copeland, and Sarah Copeland Givens, Mathew Thomas and Lacey Thomas Strother, Morgan Marshall and Austin Marshall.

The family will be at the funeral home Sunday afternoon 2:00-3:00 PM for visitation.
