Clarissa N. Sumners Snapp passed away unexpectedly at home May 9, 2012. Born February 19, 1950 in Indianapolis to Ralph and Sophia (nee Gentry) Sumners, she lived in Avon, Plainfield, Mooresville, and Lawrence.

A 1968 graduate of Avon High School she received her BS from Indiana University and graduate degrees in Education from Depauw and Butler Universities. She taught Government at Mooresville High School, served as Assistant Principle at Belzer Middle School, taught education courses part-time at IUPUI and Butler, and established the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy for the Indiana Department of Education. A nationally recognized expert in school safety and bullying prevention, she was working as an Independent E-Learning Education consultant.

She is survived by children Laura (Ben) Ramsden, Bloomington and David (Milena) Snapp, Lafayette, Colorado; grandchildren Tavvi and Vonn Snapp, Lafayette Colorado and Arianna Hall, Bloomington; siblings Jane (Jim) Ley, Indianapolis, Mark Sumners, Vancleave, Mississippi, Gail (David) Shugart, Avon, and Beth Sumners, Plainfield; maternal uncle Stiehl Gentry and paternal aunts Amye Rue Martin, Oakland City, Martha Newcomb, Anderson, and Georgia Price Petersburg; one niece and six nephews and hundreds of cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and two uncles and nine aunts.

She was a member of the Castleton United Methodist church serving on the missionary committee. She served as Treasurer for the Indiana Coalition for Public Education.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 14 4-7 pm at Conkle Funeral Home Avon Chapel, 76 North State Road 267, Avon. Funeral services will follow visitation May 14 at 7 pm with visitation starting one hour before the service. Burial services will be private.
