Michael E. (Mikel) Vail was the son of Jeremiah Vail and Mary Funderburk. He was a nephew of Jeremiah Vail b. 1817, who came to Bienville Parish, Louisiana, in 1859 from Pickens Co., Alabama. Michael's wife, Julia Ann Bradley, was a sister of Jeremiah's wife, Mary Ann Bradley; they were the daughters of John Bradley and his wife, Annie, an Indian woman.
