william was the second child born to henry fisher and mary esther simpson fisher, he had 8 siblings. he was born in a house on dewey street, bridgeville, pa. growing up it was rare to see him without a baseball glove and bat. he loved baseball. the day his senior picture was to be taken he had been playing baseball and got hit in the mouth with the baseball,resulting in a fat lip and a few stitches. so the pictures had to be postpone for a few days. any money he earned doing a chore when to pay for admission into forbes field to watch his beloved pittsburgh pirates play. he served his country in the us army during ww 11 from 1942 at the age of 18 till the war ended in 1945. he marched thru france and germany with his brothers glenn and donald. after the war but still in the army he came home where he met is wife catherine they were married on his 25th birthday nov 6 1949. in august of 1950 his country called upon him once again. and again like his fellow soldiers he answered. leaving his wife at home awaiting their first born. his first daughter was born on oct 6, 1950 and nearing her 2nd birthday when he returned to met her for the first time. it took her awhile to adjust to That Man being around. it took 6 more years for the little family to start growing but grow it did. 4 more daughters where added from 1956 thru 1964. william would have no sons but he was happy with his girls. he always said " a son is a son till he takes a wife." "but a daughter is a daughter all of her life." as it turns out his girls would give him 6 grandsons and only 3 granddaughters.
