Rufus A. Anthony, 76, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home in Goodview. He was born on July 1, 1935, to the late Madison Davis and Lurlene Pasley Anthony, in Bedford County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Anthony. Those left who will miss him dearly are his children, Ricky Anthony, of Goodview, Harvey Anthony,of Roanoke, Phillip Anthony and Benita Anthony, both of Goodview; two grandchildren, Shane Anthony, of California and Whitney Anthony, of Roanoke; brother, Larry Anthony, of Roanoke; in-laws, Ida M. (Boyd) Garrett, of Huddleston, David W. (Ellen) Murphy, of New Jersey, Billy (Barbara) Murphy, of Maryland, Frances E. Murphy, of Huddleston, Beulah (Thomas) Ferguson, of Fredericksburg, Lois (Andrew) Powell, of Roanoke, Robert Murphy, of Salem; and numerous other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with the Rev. Floyd W. Gregory Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Greenspring Baptist Church Cemetery,Goodview. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home, Roanoke.
