She died at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. She was born to Eddie and Eliza Blake Kelly. Mary was a member of Hawesville United Methodist Church and was a nurse. She started her nursing career in North Carolina and continued her career working for Dr. Lawrence in Hawesville and worked at Perry Memorial Hospital. Mary went to work for the Hancock County Health Department in 1951 where she traveled the backroads of Hancock County setting up clinics throughout the county helping with vaccinations and many other medical needs and retired in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Basinger; brothers, Paul, Carl, Ruby, Woodrow, Horace and Ellis Kelly; sisters Ivy Upchurch, Margaret Hood and an infant sister, Nancy. Survivors included her two daughters, a son, four grandchildren & two great grandchildren.
