On an unknown date prior to June 1830, Salmon m. Philena Ranney, dau. of Nathan Ranney and Ruth Cole, b. at Middletown, Conn. In the 1820 census, Philena's father was a resident of Fair Haven, VT. Salmon appears in the June 1830 and June 1840 censuses of Marcellus, NY where, according to the pub. "History of Marcellus," Salmon operated a two story machine shop manufacturing washing machines. His gravestone includes the indication that he was an "Esq(uire)" suggesting he was for a period of time a Justice of the Peace.
How many children Salmon and Philena had is uncertain. The widow Philena and her two known children, daus. Mary, then age 23, and Ellen, then age 21, were residing at Morenci Village, Lenawee County, Michigan in the June 1860 census. Philena d. at Morenci in 1869 (g.s.). Daughter Ellen would be twice married and leave descendants, but what became of her sister Mary has not been found.
