Mr. Howard Lee (H.L.) Gibson, Jr., 78, was born 10 Feb 1926 in Maury County, Tennessee. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Cothran Gibson for 47 years, and a resident of Hampshire, Tennessee. He passed away at his home in Hampshire on Thursday, June 17, 2004 with his family at his side. Funeral services for Mr. Gibson will be conducted, Sunday June 20, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Brother Randy Keene officiating. Visitation with the family will be 6-9 p.m. Friday and 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Maury County, Tennessee native was the son of the late Howard Lee Gibson, Sr. and the late Allie Mae Hinson Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a 1944 graduate of Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. He was a veteran of European Theatre during World War II. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years and Postmaster at Mt. Pleasant from April 1975 to December 1981. He received the Paul Harris Fellow Award at the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and especially being with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Jenny (Robert) Cothran of Mt, Pleasant; two sons, Will (Pam) Gibson of Murfreesboro and Jeff Gibson of Corydon, Indiana; seven grandchildren, J.J. (Erin) Gibson of Arkansas, Lindsey Gibson of Arkansas. Sarah Gibson of Hampshire, Luke and Matt Cothran of Mt. Pleasant, Caleb and Logan Gibson of Murfreesboro; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan (Nancy) Cothran of Columbia, Robin Fogle of Columbia; two step-great grandchildren, Chessley and Ty Cothran of Columbia and one sister , Peggy Gammons of Southgate, Michigan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ruth Woodard. Pallbearers will be William S. Chaffin, Charles Matheny, Horace Dawson, Billy S. Gibson, Pat Held, Bill Gibson and Vernon Giles. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Moataz Toban and Maury Regional Ambulance employees. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Library.
