Joseph Henry was killed by his good friend, a Mr. Early, who then turned the gun on himself. It seems that Mr. Early was in love with the same woman, Mary Jane Johnson, that Joe Henry had married just three weeks earlier. Both men were from well liked families in the community. Mary Jane would go on to marry Joe Henry's brother, Robert Franklin Coleman.
