Robert L. Crandall

Grafton – Robert L. Crandall, 86, of Route 2, Grafton, NY, died peacefully at his home on Saturday evening, November 26, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.

Born February 12, 1925, in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Alexander W. and Florence M. Griswold Crandall.  Bob was the loving husband of the former Sylvia R. Grogan, whom he married on November 30, 1950, in the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin, NY.  They were residents of Grafton since 1953.

After attending Troy High School, Mr. Crandall enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1942.  He later served with the Seabees in the South Pacific.  After his honorable discharge in January of 1946 he worked for Slade Tractor in Albany, NY, before becoming a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #106 as a crane operator.  His employers through the years included Syracuse Rigging, Carpenter Hauling and Rigging and John M. Mullins Rigging and Hauling.  He loved fishing and working on old machinery.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, [withheld], a son, [withheld], a daughter, [withheld], four grandchildren, [withheld], along with five great-grandchildren, [withheld].  He is pre-deceased by his sisters, Hazel Wager and Ruth Hill.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, NY, on Thursday, December 1, from 4 to 7 pm for visitation.  Interment with full military honors will take place on Saturday, December 3, at 1 pm in the Grafton Center Cemetery, Route 2, Grafton.
