Martin was the son of Hannovarian Immigrants who settled in District 46 of Lafayette County Missouri before the Civil War.
As a young man, he moved to the Pyrmont Township in Morgan County Missouri. He worked as a Blacksmith. His first wife was born in Morgan County. She died 2 1/2 yrs after their marriage.
He married again in Morgan County Missouri. Between 1900 and 1905, he moved to Stafford County Kansas where his parents and siblings had resided since the 1880's. He and his second wife lived there for the remainder of their days...
