Funeral services for Daniel Marion Vines, 88, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park under the auspices of the Burke Masonic Lodge #833 A.F. & A.M.

Long-time Lufkin businessman and rancher, Daniel Marion Vines passed away at his residence Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Mr. Vines was born November 11, 1923 in Comanche County, Texas in the small community of Stagg Creek. He was the only son of Francis Marion and Lillie May (Delk) Vines, and was blessed to have had 10 sisters.

Dan Vines served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World II in the China/Burma/India Theatre, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After returning to the states, he married his sweetheart, Drapon Ritchie and moved to Lufkin. Mr. and Mrs. Vines were original investors in Lufkin Creosoting Co., Inc. He and his wife dedicated the next five decades to the growth of their company, the prosperity of their family, and the progress of the Lufkin community. His unwavering work ethic and intense dedication allowed him to stand strong as a pillar of the community. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse racing, and ranching. He was a dedicated Mason, and a past Master of the Burke Masonic Lodge #833 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Lufkin York Rite Bodies, Arabia Shrine Temple, and Order of the Eastern Star. He lived his life as a fair and honest man, giving generously to his friends, family, and community.

He was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church, and treasured his close friends in the Berean Sunday school class.

Mr. Vines loved ones include his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bobby Ferguson; daughter, Marion Vines Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Nancy Vines; son and daughter-in-law, David and Martha Vines; nine grandchildren, Robby and Jaclyn Ferguson, Jeremy and Danielle Ferguson, Haley Vines, Davy Vines and Danielle Vines, Katy Vines, Matt Vines, Brad and Tiara Brown and Mary Elizabeth Brown.; five great-grandchildren, Halli, Rylan, Peyton, Zayden and Jackson; sister and brother-in-law, Martha Nell and Weldon Northcut; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and J.C. Hounshell; devoted friend and colleague, Larry Perry; close family friends, Larry and Sandy Choate; special nephew and niece, Ladoytt and Letha Northcutt; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Vines was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Drapon Ritchie Vines, his parents; and nine of his sisters.

Pallbearers will be Robby Ferguson, Matt Vines, Jeremy Ferguson, Brad Brown, Davy Vines, and Landon Northcutt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Smith, Larry Choate, John Thomas Jones, Dwight Thrash, Larry Perry, Curtis Spivey, and Ray Scott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. Scholarship Fund, 508 North John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, Seasons of Hope Center, P.O.
