"The town of Granville, Missouri was named for the Doctor of that time. Though some of thepeople desired to name the place Kipperville, because of the Mill owned and operated by John Clark Kipper.
In 1854, Dave Hollingsworth, a youth of 18 years, helped to move a mill from Hannibal Missouri to a site in Granville. 16 yoke of oxen were used to haul the mill. This was the John Clark Kipper mill.
Mr Kipper at one time operated a farm, a store, a wagon, and a plow shop, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill and the grist mill. For miles around people came to Kipper's mill as it was the only steam mill between Glasgow, Missouri and Hannibal Missouri."
