Alton was the youngest of nine, born to James Spencer Pool and Margaret Elizabeth Lewis. He died after losing a battle with lung cancer and was a barber by trade.
He was survived by his wife, Edna McNeece-Pool, his son Robert Eugene, and daughter Melba Jean.
Also surviving him are his brothers, Leonard Lemuel Pool, George Washington Pool, Sr., and Leonard Dalco Pool; and his sisters Willamena Mentorie Pool-Harvey, and Annie Rambsy Pool-Smith.
