FELL INTO THE RIVER.
An Old Soldier Drowned at the foot of Jackson Street.

Daniel Anderson, an inmate of the soldiers' Home, was drowned in the river at the foot of Jackson yesterday morning. Anderson was sixty-five years old, a member of Acker Post, G.A.R., and was away from the homo on a three months' furlough, which would have expired the 13th inst. For the last few weeks he has been doing odd jobs about town, and has also been more or less under the influence of liquor. Yesterday morning he was lying on the dock at the foot of Jackson street asleep. Officer McCart happened along and struck Anderson on the feet with his club. The taps aroused Anderson, and in starting to his feet he fell backward into the river. Efforts were made to rescue the drowning man, but life was extinct before he was taken from the water. So far as can be learned Anderson has no relatives living. He was drawing a small pension from the government and will be buried from the soldiers' home.
