Lois A. Hopping, age 91, of Greenville, died Friday, October 17, 2008.

Lois was born in New Jersey in 1917 and spent much of her life living within 25 miles of New York City.

After graduating from Douglass College in New Brunswick, N.J., she saw wartime service with the British Purchasing Commission and with Eastern Aircraft.

Subsequently, she worked for nearly thirty years as an employment interviewer with the State of New Jersey.

In 1941, she married Ken Hopping, and they shared forty-five wonderful years together until his death in 1986.

Lois moved to Greenville in 1994, and lived in the Swansgate subdivision for fourteen years.

She was known to her family and friends as an extraordinarily warm and loving person who truly thought it was better to give than to receive.

She brightened all our days and will be sorely missed.

Lois is survived by a daughter and son-in-law of Greenville; a brother, and his wife, of Morehead City, N.C.; and a granddaughter, and her husband, , of San Mateo, Calif., and their daughters.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 701 Cleveland Street, with Reverend Cameron Treece officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the church parlor.
