George was born in Modale, Iowa along with his twin sister Zellie. Both George and Zellie were the first two children of the four children born to Albert and Lizzie Bessire. George moved at the age of 13 with his family of six to an area that was the Ute Indian reservation but was recently opened for settlement. Settling in the new community of Appleton, Colorado, George would help his Dad on the new homestead planting apple trees for their new orchard. In time George met and married his wife Ethel, on June 3, 1909 at the local Presbyterian Church and then raised nine children. George was always a dirt farmer having two different farms. One in Appleton and the second not far away in the community of Loma. George and Ethel never had very much but a lot of love for their family. With most of the children raised and off to war, George and Ethel retired from farming and moved to Fort Collins where their second oldest daughter was working as a nurse. George lived another 15 years after his sweetheart died in 1955, even then he always had family living with him. Daughter Edith and son Fred never married and would take care of their Dad until his death in 1970.
