Claude C. Kiger, 84, of Wilmington, NC, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Winston-Salem, NC, September 22, 1924, son of the late Claude C. Kiger, Sr. and Emma Lambert Kiger. His loving wife of sixty-three years, Catherine Dendy Kiger, preceded him in death, February 5, 2008.

Mr. Kiger served during World War II with the United States Marine Corps. He spent forty-three months in the Pacific Theatre and participated in five beach landings. Serving his county in the Marine Corps was something he was very proud of having the honor to do. "Semper Fidelis, Marine"

He retired from Piedmont Airlines (now U. S. Airways) with thirty years of service.

Surviving are two sons, Wes Kiger of Atlantic Beach, NC, and Barry Kiger of the home; and a granddaughter, Kelli Elizabeth of Wilmington.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
