Mrs. Wood Was Among Earliest Settlers Here

The death of Mrs. Martha Ann Wood, who died here on Monday marks the passing of one of the oldest pioneers in the valley. She has resided in Ellensburg since 1872.
Mrs. Wood had a unique place in the community as the owner and manager of the Forest House, on Pine St. There, in addition to food and lodging she dispensed motherly care and interest and has been a mother to a number of those who lived there.
She led the life of the pioneer, moving from Illinois to Iowa with her parents in 1855. In Iowa she married Benjamin Frisby [Frisbee] in 1861. In 1871 she came west with her husband to California. In 1872 she came to Kittitas county where she has resided since.
She is survived by Walter Frisby [Frisbee], of Ewing's Landing, B.C., her only living child. Mrs. M. M. Welty is her sister-in-law, and Mrs. H. C. Weaver, Mrs. William Pearson and Mrs. K. Smit are her nieces.
Mrs. Wood joined the W. C. T. O. at the time when Frances Willard made her trip to the northwest, and became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church two years ago.
The funeral will be held at the Honeycutt parlors on Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Mrs. Minnie Sype and the Rev. F. M. Oliver of Yakima officiating.
