Jessie James Jones

Peshastin, WA

Jessie James Jones, 79, a resident of Peshastin, WA, died Friday February 24, 2012, at Cashmere Convalescent Center, following a short illness. Jessie was born on June 3, 1932, to Henry and Cynthia Nettie (Shoffitt) Jones at Colgate, OK. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Wenatchee, where he was raised and attended school. He worked in the fruit industry and later, with his father on the dams. Jessie married Lorene Yonaka on September 2, 1971, at Cashmere. Jessie then worked in the woods logging, later returned to the orchards and then as a truck driver, until an injury forced him to retire. They then moved to Peshastin, where they have lived for the past 24 years. Jessie loved hunting, fishing, camping, watching football and listening to country music with family and friends. Every Fourth of July, they would have a party and bring in country music artists from all over the U.S. and Canada.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene Jones of the family home; brother, Kenneth (Eunice) Jones of Wenatchee; step-children, Alice (Yonaka) and David Nieman of Dryden, David and Callie Yonaka of Monitor, Kenny and Kit Yonaka of Orondo and Jerry and Debra Yonaka of East Wenatchee; also several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Cynthia "Nettie" Jones; brother, Melvin Jones; sister, Dorothy Toftness; and his twin sister, Odessa Shannon.

A Celebration of Jessie's Life will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Dryden Fire Department (Dryden Community Hall). Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
