Abe Hoogewoning Dies at Atlantic

Word was received at the Journal-Herald office Wednesday, from Atlantic, stating that Abe Hoogewoning had passed away at the Atlantic hospital at 11:40 a.m. and that the body would be brought to Avoca today (Thursday) and the funeral services would be held at the Presbyterian church in Avoca Sunday, February 5, at three o'clock.

Mr. Hoogewoning was taken to the hospital in Atlantic a few weeks ago for treatment for cancer, there being very little if any chance for recovery at the time. His wife, who was also in poor health was also taken to the hospital, but she has recovered nicely.

Abe Hoogewoning was one of the best known old settlers in Avoca. Coming here in the early eighties. He was very successful in business and had accumulated some little property. He leaves to mourn his loss three sons by his first wife, who passed away a number of years ago, at Des Moines. The past few years Mr. Hoogewoning devoted his time to his little farm adjoining Avoca in the southeast part of town.

To his good wife and sons, the community extend heartfelt sympathy.
