Mama was born on Christmas Eve and we used to say that Santa Claus brought her. When she was 12, her parents, Peter (1880-1960) and Emma (1883-1946) moved the family from Pennsylvania to California. She married at 17 and had me at 19, exactly 1 year later, on my first birthday, she had my sister. Mama was a very talented lady, but she didn't seem to realize it. She sewed, beautifully, crocheted and did fun little crafty things. She also liked cross-word puzzles. She had a beautiful voice and she, my sis and I used to love to sing the beautiful old standards of the 30's & 40's in 3 part harmony. Mama had the best sense of humor of anybody I've ever known. She appreciated a good joke, or a bad one and loved to laugh. She loved the Beatles, especially George Harrison. She was totally devoted to her family...children, siblings, etc, and considered herself blessed to have been born to the best parents in the world. She was widowed in 1995 and went to live with my sister. After a long illness, she died the way she wanted to. It was morning and she was worried about her oldest great-granddaughter, who was at the hospital having a baby, (she always worried about her "children"), she wasn't feeling well, I made her a cup of tea and she said she was going to try to go back to sleep. She just peaceully lay back on her bed and was gone. My sister and I cannot get over the pain of losing her. She will be, forever missed by her children, Marie & LaVerne, 2 grandchildren, Brooke and Britt, 6 great-grandchildren, Lynn, Nicholas, Briana, Courtney, Ryan & Brandi. On the day she left us her first g-g-granchild was born...Brandice Adrianna Lyda Swearinger-Pech..."The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away". She also leaves behind her 3 surviving siblings, Marie, Robert and Kenneth Melhorn, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman (1909-1995), brothers, Ralph (1909-1925) and Hal (1912-1987) and sister Olive 1906-1996).

She was the granddaughter of Jonathan William & Lydia Elmira (Eckenrode)Melhorn and Nicholas & Jane Frances (Hott) Wyland. She was Great granddaughter of Augustine & Barbara (Moke)Hott
