Mrs. Emma Gertrude “Nannie” Demastus Young, 85, widow of Wallace Covey Young and a resident of East 9th Street in Columbia, went home to be with the Lord on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Young will be conducted Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points, Ronnie Parrish, Danny Riggins, and Jim Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery at Culleoka. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Issac Fletcher and Jessie Hester Howell Demastus. She was a homemaker, baby sitter, and known to many as “the best cook in the world”. She was a member of the Scribner’s Mill Church of Christ.

She is survived by three daughters, Hester Smith and Doris (Roger) King both of Columbia, TN, and Kathy (Larry) Gillum of Cornersville, TN; a son, W.C. Young of Columbia, TN; two daughters-in-law, Virginia Faye Young and Ethel Young both of Columbia, TN; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, James Issac Young, Ewing Thomas Young, and Billy Ray Young.
