THE GREENVILLE NEWS - May 16, 2012

Burnel Cox, 89, widower of Martha Louise Smith Cox, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of Garnet and Claudia Lillian McGuffin Cox.

Mr. Cox was a U. S. Army veteran in World War II and was Owner/Operator of Cox Wrecker Service and a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church. He was a former State Constable and former Police Chief of City View.

Surviving are a son, Ronnie Cox and wife Pam of Greenville; a daughter, Christine Smith of Greenville; two grandsons, Jason and Travis Cox; a great grandson, Tyler Cox; two brothers, Charles McAlister of Alpharetta, GA and Jim McAlister of Westminster; two sisters, Jenny Cox Hughes of Seneca and Mary Ellen McAlister Garrett of Greenville. He was predeceased by an infant son and by a brother, William Edward McAlister.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 12 noon in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Care Hospice for their care, and special thanks to Chastity, Delores and Jerry.
