Lillian was the daughter of William and Hattie Bryant Grimshaw. She had an older brother named William.

On Monday, November 10, 1902, at the age of 20, Lillian married Peter Belmore in Lake Placid, NY. They had six children, all of whom were born in Lake Placid, NY: Kenneth Peter, Harriet Lillian, Chester Taylor, Alan Henry, Daisy Elizabeth, and Richard Earl.

In October of 1918, Lillian's husband Peter died at the age of 36, leaving her with her six children, the oldest being 14 years old.

In 1925, Lillian married George Hare. He passed away in 1962.

Lillian lived her final years at 13-1/2 Forest Street in Lake Placid, in a cottage behind the residence of her son, Alan Belmore. She's buried beside her her husband Peter Belmore.
