On January 26th, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ernest Matthew Casey at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Ernest and Della had always made their home in Marshalltown where she was employed at the hospital and four local physicians in their offices as well as in community nursing. Later, Della worked at the Iowa Veterans Home from 1980 until retiring in 1990.
Della was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Auxillary, American Legion Auxillary, Vittoria Lodge Auxillary, the Altar and Rosary Society (now Council of Catholic Women) and did volunteer work at the Iowa Veterans Home, recently earning a special award for her countless hours devoted to IVH residents.
On September 7th, 1991, she was united in marriage to Floyd Mervin Airey at St. Mary's. Della moved to the Westown Apartments on Main Street upon their opening and was blessed with many neighbors who will miss her presence and friendship.
Della O. Casey Airey, 84, of Marshalltown, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010, at the Iowa Veterans Home where she had resided for the past week. Her death came peacefully at 6:26 p.m. with her family at her side.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael Edward (Raechel) Casey and John Joseph Casey both of Marshalltown; her grandchildren Nicole and Tiffany Casey, Jeff (Mindy) Ceaser, and Sarah (Jess) Hassman; great-granddaughter Brooklynn Ann and great-grandson Reid Ceaser; siblings; Roger Dale Stefani of Ankeny, Iowa; Nancy Stefani of Des Moines, Iowa; and Mary Rose Fugaccia of Ankeny. She is also survived by her family from her marriage to Floyd Airey including Ray (Kathleen) Airey of Marshalltown, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
In eternal life she has rejoined her husbands Ernest Matthew Casey and Floyd Mervin Airey, her daughter Ann Marie, daughters-in-law Jan Casey and Rhonda Casey, brothers Marco and Raymond Rex Stefani, sister Rose Mary Stefani at birth, her parents, and her grandparents.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. Della was laid to rest beside her beloved Ernest and Ann Marie in Riverside Cemetery.
