Dowayne Delmont Jessop, 93, died peacefully May 18, 2012 at his home in Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield, surrounded by many of his family members. He was born Aug.3,1918, in Millville, Utah to Dowayne Neor & Pearl Amelia James Jessop. He married his sweetheart of 68 years, Valaine Anna Herzog, Dec. 8, 1939 in the LDS Logan Temple. They lived in Logan, UT, Clifton, ID, Clearfield, UT, Oceanside, CA, Nanimo British Columbia, San Diego, CA, and spent 71 years as residents of Clearfield, UT.

Dowayne was a farmer, trained in the trade by his father. He graduated from Clifton High School in Idaho. He attended the A.C. (Agricultural College now known as Utah State University), and attended a National Defense School where he studied Air Craft Engines. He started working at Hill Air Force Base in January 1942, and retired in 1980 with 38 years of service. He started work as an Air Craft Mechanic Apprentice, worked hard and rose to the position of Superintendent of the Swing Shift over seeing about 2,500 employees. At the end of his career he worked as a Minute Man Missile & Munitions Quality Assurance Specialist. After retiring he and Valaine were Movie extras for "Touched by An Angel." He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1945. He left home on Memorial Day for his basic training in San Diego, CA. Then he went to Camp Pendleton for advanced training. He was scheduled to go to Japan with the Invasion Force, but when World War II ended they pulled the married men out of the regiment going to Japan and the Far East and he was transferred to Camp La June in North Carolina, participating in joint training with the Army and the Navy. He was honorably discharged 31 July, 1946. Dowayne first registered as a Boy Scout in 1930 in Clifton, Idaho. When he moved to Clearfield he joined Troop 151 as an Assistant Scout Master. He was one of four, in the state of Utah, chosen for National Aquatic Training. He spent many hours and weekends, dedicating his time and talents to grow outstanding men from the many boys who worked with him in scouting over the past 80 + years. He supported the Cub, Scouts, and Venture Explorers. He earned his Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver, and received the James E. West Fellow Award, in Oct. 2010. He was still registered with Clearfield Troop 151 at the time of his passing. He was the longest continuously registered Boy Scout in the State of Utah, (80+ years). Dowayne loved sports. He played basketball, baseball and volleyball on Clearfield First and Fifth Ward teams until he was 83 years old. He was on several All-Church Competition Teams. He also played softball with the Hill Field Aces and basketball with the Hill Field Mustangs. Dowayne was an active member of the Clearfield Kiwanis Club, and was President of the Clearfield Sr. Citizens Club. He also served as President of Weber Basin Water and Canal Company for many years. He served on the committee that wrote the History of Clearfield City. He also served on a committee that wrote the Clearfield Utah Stake History. He kept wonderful church history records and provided many pictures of Clearfield City through the years. Dowayne had a green thumb! He loved growing flowers, gardens and fruit trees. He was "Mr. Fix it", Photographer, Family Historian & Genealogist. He was a living example of doing a "Good Turn Daily", helping the widows and fatherless. He and Valaine quilted, canned, made & shared needle work crafts. He even took organ lessons at the age of 90. He wrote many family histories on his progenitors, and has authored three volumes of original poems. Dowayne has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served two full time missions with his sweetheart & companion, Valaine: the first to Vancouver British Columbia, and the second to San Diego, CA. They were also Co-Directors of the LDS Church Regional Data Entry Center for 9 years. They supervised shifts 7 days a week, 10 hours a day. They were called as Temple workers and served for 4 years at the Ogden Temple. He served in the Sunday School, YMMIA, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group Leader, Bishoprics. At age 93 he was still serving as a Home Teacher, with Darwin Olson as his companion and they never missed a month visiting their families. At the time of his passing he was the Priesthood Chorister and the Sacrament Coordinator of the Chancellor Gardens Branch. As the patriarch of his family, he has been there for all of us for every major event in our lives. He was a great example to us all!!

The family extends our heartfelt thanks to Helen Cordova, Necha Nolan and the other members of the Vista Care Home Hospice Family for their loving support of Dowayne. Also, we extend our gratitude to the many from Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield, who have helped Dad for the past four years, while residing there after Valaine's passing. You were angels in disguise! The viewing will be Friday, May 25, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm at the Clearfield LDS Stake Center, 935 South State, Clearfield, Utah. Saturday, will be a viewing from 9am to 10:15 am, followed by the funeral services at 10:30am. There will be a luncheon provided by the Clearfield First Ward and Chancellor Gardens Branch Relief Societies at the Stake Center prior to departing for the Millville Cemetery. There we will have a special Military Honor Guard presentation and Dedication of the grave about 2 pm
