MACOMB – John Adams Jr., 94, of Macomb, formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at McDonough Hospital in Macomb.
He was born the son of John and Theresa Paik Adams Sr. on Sept. 13, 1912, in Lincoln. He married Dorothy M. Holliday Adams in Springfield on Feb. 12, 1937; she preceded him in death March 16, 2007.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Springfield, 50-year member of Central Lodge 71 AF&AM, U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and an original member of the Charles Rogers Dance Band. He retired as sales manager from Prudential Insurance Co. in 1975, after 40 years of service. He was a member and past president of Springfield Life Underwriters Association, member and past president of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Chapter 66 of Illinois and member of the Lincoln Land Depression Era Glass Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn (husband, James) Keeney of Macomb; two granddaughters, Jennifer (husband, David) Ludwig of Geneva and Lisa (husband, Tim) Albrecht of Coal Valley; three great-grandchildren, Ava Ludwig and Carson and Molly Albrecht; two sisters, Margaret Shontz of Peoria and Sadie (husband, Vernon) Shontz of Springfield; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Road. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family graveside service will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to McDonough County Animal Shelter in Macomb or to the a charity of the donor's choice.
