Edna Leona McDowell, age 83, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas.

Edna was born January 7, 1929 in Buffalo, Kansas to John A. and Pearl (Axthelm) Clifton. She grew up in Southeast Kansas and worked in various manufacturing companies.

She received her Cosmetology License in Wichita, Kansas and owned and operated Hair Boutique in Cherryvale until she retired at age 80.

She attended the First Christian Church in Cherryvale.

Edna is survived by her companion, Gary Blackburn of Cherryvale, Kansas; two daughters, Susie Street of Wichita, Kansas and Patricia Vanderpool of Independence, Kansas; two brothers, Bill Clifton of Cherryvale, Kansas and Ray Bird of Lansing, Kansas; two sisters, Fredia Hall of Kansas City, Kansas and Tina Williams of Florida; eight grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and seven brothers, one of whom was her twin, Eddie Leon Clifton.
