DAVID THOMAS GIBB

David Thomas Gibb, 88, died Wednesday at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. He was born March 11, 1885 at Lehi, Utah. At age 16 he moved with his family to Hillspring, Alberta, Canada. On January 9, 1907 he was married to Jessie Young. They had two children, David J. and Jessie Ruth, all of whom preceeded him in death. On January 8, 1913 he was married to Sarah R. Mendenhall. They had seven children and in 1934 the family moved to the Kittitas Valley. A short time later, his wife died.
On July 16, 1937 he was married to Florence E. Hansen and they have farmed in the Denmark area since that time. He worked for several years for Kelleher Motors.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. He served as the first branch president of the church in the Ellensburg area. In his earlier years, he served as a missionary for the church in Australia.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, at the family home on Route 2; four sons, Thomas of Hesperia, Cal., Raeford and Jesse, both of Ellensburg, and Byron of Kent; two daughters, Mrs. Retta Brashear of Pasco and Mrs. Annie Allen of Quincy; and two stepchildren, Mrs. Gene Van Orden of Ellensburg and Manford Hansen of Moses Lake. Another son, Willard, preceded him in death. Also surviving are 59 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, corner of Anderson and Manitoba Streets. Bishop Jesse Gibb will officiate and burial will follow at High Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening at Evenson Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials may be sent to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Memorial Fund, in care of Bishop Jesse L. Gibb, Route 2, Ellensburg.
