(a) 1906: Soichiro Honda was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan. Japan's first Shogun spent his youth at the Hamamatsu Castle. In 1940, Hamamatsu was a major transportation hub and home to the Yakuhin, Nakajima Aircraft Company and Suzuki Motors. In 1909 Suzuki Motor Corporation, Michio Suzuki (1887–1982) founded the Suzuki Loom Works; later he produced automobiles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboard marine engines, wheelchairs and other small internal combustion engines.
(b) 1948: Soichiro Honda started Honda Motor Company in Hamamatsu. In the 1960s, the company achieved worldwide fame for its motorcycles. In 1946, Soichiro Honda was a mechanic and race car driver when purchased an old factory that lay mostly in ruins from wartime bombings. He came across a cache of surplus two-stroke motors and decided to make motorbikes. In 1947, Soichiro's factory produced his first complete motorbike. In 1949 steel-framed, front- and rear-suspended D-Type that could go as fast as 50 miles per hour. In 1950, he produced the Cub, that was the first Honda product sold in United States. The Honda Civic automobile was sold in the US in 1973 and Accord was sold in 1976.
