Virginia was named for the place of her birth - a military camp (Camp Piatt) in West Virginia, the same night that Lincoln was shot. Her father was serving in the NY Veteran Calvary, having been drafted at the age of 39. After the war, the family returned to Carbondale, PA. Virginia split her time between her father in Carbondale, and her mother and stepfather, Charles Peck, in Wilkes-Barre.
First married to Charles Brown, who was killed in the railroad yards. Later married George L. Haney, and they blended their families and moved to CT where George found work in the brass mills.
