Anthony Callaghan was born in Ireland in 1833. In 1857 he came to America as his Uncle and several Callaghan and Linnihan cousins had done previously. He was in Illinois in 1862, and enlisted in the 104th Illinois Infantry. He fought at Chickamauga, Chattanooga, the Battle of Atlanta and the March to the Sea. He caught up with his relatives in Wisconsin after the war and they all moved to Minnesota. There he met and married Ellen Shea. They farmed in Waseca County, MN and raised three daughters. He died in December, 1901 after suffering a stroke at age 66.
