Mrs. Locky Bell Hawkins Brown, 77, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday evening, April 30, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Grayson County, VA on July 30, 1932 to the late Guy Arnold and Ethel Roxie Lineberry Hawkins. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1949. Locky was a member of Union Tabernacle Church, where she was active with the women's circle and loved to play Bingo. She was retired from Sara Lee after many years of service. A 2 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 3, 2010 at Union Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Herb Mabe officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Marshall Brown; and her brother, Charlie Hawkins. She is survived by her children: Verna B. Griffin and husband, Kenny of King, David M. Brown and wife, Sherrie of Walkertown; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Rosie Lee Cole and Anna Mae Melton, both of Galax, VA, and Bonnie Hodge of Independence, VA; and one brother, Fred Hawkins of Fries, VA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter. Online condolences may be offered at www.
