PORTAGE - Louis A. "Bud" Winkler, age 73, died on Sunday, February 17, 1991, at his home in Portage. He was born at Packwaukee, Wisconsin, June 1, 1917, to Ferdinand and Clara (Wuerch) Winkler.

He served in the Armed Forces during World War II. On July 27, 1940, Louis A. Winkler and Evelyn Allen were united in marriage at Caledonia Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Winkler retired from the Portage Hosiery June of 1979. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Winkler was a member of the Portage Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Elder, and the American Legion Richard W. Mulcahy Post #47.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Winkler of Portage; two daughters, Sharon (Harold) Kroncke of Portage and Mary Jane (Wayne) Slebert of St. Paul, Minnesota; a sister, Ramona (Frank) Grassy of Littleton, Colorado; five grandchildren, Shelley, Sherry and Sheila Kroncke, Jodi (Brian) Oster and Jennifer Slebert; and other near relatives and friends.

Mr. Winkler was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. from the PORT-AXTELL FUNERAL HOME In Portage. Reverend Donald McLeod will officiate. Burial will be in the Shanks Cemetery in Caledonia Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin.
