∼CORYDON - Higdon, Patrick Byrum, made his transition on May 10, 2011.
He was a World War II U.S. Army combat veteran. A native of Corydon, IN, he was born on July 16, 1917 to Byrum and Bessie Knowland Higdon. He graduated from Corydon High School and attended Purdue University. Following college, he was a top salesman for Remington Rand, Cincinnati, OH.
He earned a Bronze Star for his heroism in combat during military service with the 94th Infantry Division in World War II. After the war, he served as president and CEO of Petery-Hedden Co., Inc., until he retired in 1989. He was a member of Rotary, VFW and Elks, as well as a charter member of the New Albany Toastmasters Club, #410. He especially loved his many summers in the Grand Teton Mountains and was an avid golfer all of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Esther Bye Higdon; three daughters, Susan Higdon, Julie Rickard and Selma Brigham; two sons, Timothy and Brian; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Edmond K. Higdon; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Harding Higdon; brothers, George and Joseph; and a nephew, Kenton Higdon.
The family will hold a memorial service in celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at First Unitarian Church, 809 S. 4th St., Louisville, KY.
